It’s Coming!

A Truth to Live – The followers of Jesus asked Him one day to teach them to pray. His response spoke volumes about purpose and meaning in life.  The entire mission of God on this earth is to bring the heavenly Kingdom of God to earth – through me. When I join His mission I find purpose and meaning for my life.

Scripture – “Your Kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”  Matthew 6:10

Prayer – Mighty Redeemer, You have orchestrated history so that I have the privilege of joining Your mission.  I will stop praying for my needs alone and, beginning today, make my priority in life Your mission on the earth.  Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven! In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Living Here But Serving There

A Truth to Live – The Kingdom of God is not of this world. Its values and principles are heavenly and always function in the opposite spirit of the “me first” worldview all around me.  As a follower of Jesus, I am to live in this world but adhere to the principles of the Kingdom of God.

Scripture – “My Kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews. But now my kingdom is from another place.”  John 18:36

Prayer – Heavenly King, today I choose to belong to You, to follow Your ways and live in Your Kingdom.  I recognize that too many times my relationship with You, God, and with others, centers on my needs. But from now on I want to be focused on bringing You glory and magnifying Your name in the earth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

The Big Discovery

A Truth to Live – Many believe that real power, wisdom and insight come from learning or listening to certain “authorities.” But God’s Kingdom comes through ultimate and complete surrender to the control and directive leading of God.  When I receive Jesus Christ into my heart and yield control of all I am and do, then the Kingdom of God resides in me!

Scripture – “The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, nor will people say, ‘Here it is’ or ‘there it is,’ because the Kingdom of God is within you.” Luke 17:21

Prayer – Dear Jesus, help me to stop trying to find that perfect “place” where I can experience You and to realize that You are already here and everywhere.  Teach me to not pursue the latest fad of teaching or whims of doctrine in the hopes of finding You through some secret knowledge. I know that You are knocking on the door of my heart (Revelation 3:20) and want to come in and be with me.  I yield control of who I am and choose to follow Your lead. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

The First Are Last and the Last Are First

A Truth to Live – Our natural desire is to be first. We want to be first in line, first to finish, and first among our peers. But clearly this is not the way of Jesus’ Kingdom.  If I want to finish first in the view of eternity then I must choose to be last and defer to others ahead of myself.

Scripture – “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire men in his vineyard. He agreed to pay a day’s wage and sent them out. About the third hour, the sixth and the ninth hour he hired others and promised them a day’s wage.  When evening came he said, call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last ones hired and going on to the first. So the last will be first and the first shall be last.”

Matthew 20:1-16

Prayer – Master, I will no longer seek to be first.  Today I am choosing the way of Your Kingdom – seeking to do my best but to not insist that I am rewarded for a job well done.  Help me to prefer others to get the credit above myself and in doing so put You first. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Finding Greatness in God’s Kingdom

A Truth to Live – Earthly power is exercised with might and control, but authority in the Kingdom of God is demonstrated in meekness and humility.  I can find true greatness in God’s Kingdom when I serve others and stop demanding my rights.

Scripture – “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; but you are not to be like that.  Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves. I confer on you a kingdom, just as my Father conferred one on me.”  Luke 22:25-29

Prayer – Eternal God, today I will follow Your path of meekness and humility and serve those around me.  I know that Your Kingdom is not one of might and control, but of service and sacrificial love. I receive You as the authority in my life and ask that You will confer upon me Your eternal Kingdom. In Jesus’ name Amen.

Seek Him and Find the Rest

A Truth to Live – God’s ways are always true. When I join the mission of God and seek His Kingdom and righteousness He promises that every other need that I have will be met.  God has never lied or failed to fulfill His promises.

Scripture – “Seek His Kingdom and these things will be given to you as well.”  Luke 12:31

Prayer – Heavenly Father, today I will seek Your Kingdom and not my own. Help me to find You in every part of my day and to behave humbly and righteously in a way that honors You. I trust that when I put Your Kingdom first, You will take care of all my needs.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Kingdom Authority and Power

A Truth to Live – The path that leads to God’s authority and Kingdom power is narrow, hard and costly, and very few find it. (Matthew 7:13)  The best way for me to find this path and not get lost is to follow the same path that Jesus walked when He was on the earth. He came to serve. He befriended sinners. He loved the unlovely and made Himself of no reputation.  Wherever He walked people spoke of His authority. When you take Jesus’ path, God’s authority and Kingdom power will also reign in your life.

Scripture – “Heal the sick who are there and tell them, ‘the Kingdom of God is near you’.”  Luke 10:9

Prayer – Eternal and Wise God, today I choose the narrow road to life. I know that it is not an easy path, but I want to experience the joy and mercy of Your authority. I will empty myself of all ambition and desire so that I can be filled with Your presence and Kingdom Power.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Whatever It Takes

A Truth to Live – Joining the mission of God in Kingdom power requires a total and complete devotion to God and God alone.  I must commit to avoid all temptations and distractions that would hinder my walk with God and keep me from completing the mission God has given me.

Scripture – “And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out.  It is better for you to enter the Kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell.”  Mark 9:47

Prayer – Righteous Father, You are good and holy and no evil can be in Your presence. Today I commit all that I am, everything I see, hear and do to be in accordance with Your mission.  I will do whatever it takes to follow You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

It’s About the Fruit

A Truth to Live – Just like an apple tree produces apples so those who are on God’s journey will produce spiritual fruit -- the character qualities and the actions that identify them with Jesus. When I join the mission of God with Kingdom power my life will bear good fruit.

Scripture – “Therefore I tell you that the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to people who will produce its fruit.”  Matthew 21:43

Prayer – Gracious Father, help me today to follow You.  I want to be known by You and those around me to be someone who produces the fruit of righteousness and who demonstrates Kingdom power.  Grant to me the richness of Your presence and the potency of Your wisdom to both be and act according to Your will. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Living Like Children

A Truth to Live – Healthy little children are care-free and filled with confidence and love for their parents.  They trust their parents to provide for them, to guide them along the right path and to take care of their every need. I should follow Jesus with the same trust and freedom - knowing that joining His mission will keep me on the right path and provide all that I need.

Scripture – “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the Kingdom of heaven.” Matthew18:3

Prayer – Heavenly Father, I trust You for everything that I need and for where I should go.  I resign from being “in charge” of my own destiny and turn to You. By joining Your mission today, I am looking for You to lead me each step of my day and to show me Yourself in every circumstance.  I will follow You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Doing His Will

A Truth to Live – Every follower of Jesus is known, not so much by his words, but by his actions.  I can say things I don’t understand, or state things that I don’t necessarily mean, but what I actually do shows what I believe.  Joining the mission of God in Kingdom power is about doing and speaking His will.

Scripture – “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 7:21

Prayer – Gracious Father, today I commit to seek You, to follow You and to do Your will.  Help me to listen before I act, to not be afraid of what others may think and to join Your mission by obeying Your Word in every circumstance.  Grant me the courage to stay on course with You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Joining the Mission of God

A Truth to Live – The invitation to “come and follow me” (Matthew 4:19) is extended from God to me each and every day. My “yes” to His call positions me to be with Him and also provides me with the Kingdom Power to be a part of His miraculous work.

Scripture – “Jesus went through Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the Kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.”  Matthew 4:23

Prayer – Today, Lord, I say “YES” to You. I will go with You today and join Your mission on the earth.  Help me to confidently proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom and watch You deliver others from evil. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Driving Out Demons

A Truth to Live – The Kingdom of God has more power than the grip of emotional wounds, addictive habits and the temptation of evil.  The spiritual authority resident in Jesus is much more than a ‘boost’ used to personally improve my struggle against sin. The words of Jesus have the power to drive out the demons of hell and create a new life filled with peace.

Scripture – “But if I drive out demons by the finger of God, then the Kingdom of God has come to you.”  Luke 11:20

Prayer – O Great Rescuer, find me today and deliver me from the insanity of thinking that I can fix myself, or that by adding a few pearls of wisdom I can change my own behavior and destiny. You alone have the power over death and evil.  May Your Kingdom come – now, and rescue me into Your permanent peace and wholeness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Let the Dead Bury the Dead

A Truth to Live – A pre-occupation with short-term material rewards is one of the biggest obstacles that keeps me from living and walking in richness of the Kingdom of God. I can overcome this temptation by speaking the words of life from the Scripture to everyone who crosses my path.

Scripture – “Jesus said, ‘Let the dead bury the dead, but you go and proclaim the Kingdom of God’.” Luke 9:60

Prayer – Eternal Leader, forgive me for turning my attention to the lifeless desires and appetites of the world. Help me today to change my behavior by proclaiming Your Kingdom with my words and speaking about the richness of Your Word to others.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

It’s Not Just for Me

A Truth to Live – Jesus, the One in charge of the Kingdom of Heaven, is on the move.  He is always looking for those whose lives have been broken, shattered and wounded. The best way to “stay” in that sacred place of worship and healing with Jesus is to join Him on His continued mission.

Scripture – “He said, ‘I must preach the good news of the Kingdom of God to other towns also, because that is why I was sent.’”  Luke 4:43

Prayer – Righteous and Holy Father, help me today to follow You.  I know that You spent Your life serving others, and I commit to follow in Your path. Help me to get past focusing on my own needs and recognize that You want to bless others through me.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

An Inheritance Too Big to Spend

A Truth to Live – Jesus, the King of Heaven measures true productivity. The Gospels tell numerous parables about workers being rewarded for their faithfulness and resourcefulness – and others being punished for their laziness.  Every follower of Jesus may receive both a present tense and future reward for speaking the words of the Kingdom and bringing life to all who hear.

Scripture – “Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the Kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world’.” Matthew 25:34

Prayer – Heavenly Father, I come humbly to You today, acknowledging my own shortcomings and ask for You to grant me the strength and courage to speak Your words of life to others and to do Your will. I know that You have prepared an inheritance for those who follow You.  Help me to follow You and You alone. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

It’s Not Over ‘til It’s Over

A Truth to Live – God has put me in the middle of His masterful plan for every ethnic group in the world – from the farthest flung tribal group to the urban masses next door – to hear the Good News before Jesus returns and establishes a new heaven and a new earth.

Scripture – “And this gospel of the Kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations [ethnic groups], and then the end will come.”  Matthew 24:14

Prayer – God, You are an incredible Redeemer.   I am amazed that You have chosen me to be a part of Your master plan to declare Your glory among all the ethnic groups of the world.  Help me to see today that my words count for eternity and that You want me to invest in others who will join me in extending Your Kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

The Keys to Heaven

A Truth to Live – The King of Heaven has granted every follower the keys to His Kingdom.  When I decide to follow Jesus the King, spiritual keys to His Kingdom are activated by words I speak and the life I live.  God promises to watch over His Word to make sure it’s completed (Jeremiah 1:12), so I will choose my words carefully. I will align myself with God’s heart and watch the richness of His presence begin to shape my world.

Scripture – “I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” Matthew 16:19

Prayer – Eternally Good and Heavenly Father, Your kindness toward me is overwhelming.  I will speak Your words of life today, knowing that they have the power to bind and loose – to protect and to free – my own life and those who hear Your Word.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Every Word Counts

A Truth to Live – Living within the boundaries and safety of the Kingdom of God becomes simple when I make Jesus the Supreme King of my life and I become His humble subject.  Since His words breathe life into every situation, when I speak the Word of God, His Kingdom comes near.

Scripture – “From that time on Jesus began to preach, ‘Repent for the Kingdom of heaven is near’.”  Matthew 4:17

Prayer – Gracious and merciful Savior, How grateful I am for Your incredible love and forgiveness.  Wash over me with the fountain of Your cleansing blood and create in me new passions for You. I commit to You today that the words of my mouth will speak only of Your truth and goodness to others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Born into the Kingdom

A Truth to Live – Living and walking in the Kingdom of God requires a “departure” from one system and beginning life with God.  It’s more than just a new way of thinking or finding ways to incorporate the wisdom of God’s Word into my current thoughts and actions.  Entering the Kingdom of God is about leaving something that’s old and broken and clinging to something that is new and life-giving.

Scripture – “I tell you the truth, no one can enter the Kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.” John 3:5

Prayer – Eternal Savior, thank You for extending Your mercy and grace to me.  I ask that You would immerse me in Your love and cleanse me from sin. Baptize me in Your Spirit so that my thoughts and actions reflect Your Kingdom.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
